Michael Sumerton, M.A.
Board Member, Teacher
Mr. Sumerton, alongside his wife Catherine, has dedicated over two decades to educating and forming young people in academic, religious, and trade-related fields. Michael holds a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education and a Master’s degree in Mathematics from Eastern Michigan University. With 16 years of experience as a math, engineering, and English teacher and eight years as a school administrator, he has served in a wide range of educational settings—from public and alternative schools to homeschool co-ops.
Michael and Catherine are blessed with nine homeschooled children, two scores of nieces and nephews, and a vibrant Catholic community. Michael enjoys praying the Divine Office, mentoring and coaching young people, splitting wood, fly fishing, and shooting three-pointers.
Throughout his career, Michael has been committed to fostering academic excellence and moral integrity in his students. His efforts extend beyond the classroom; he helped found and served as board president for the Christ the King homeschool co-op, which supports more than 100 families from kindergarten through twelfth grade.
Michael also mentors young people outside of school as a basketball coach, through “Dad’s School” father-son events, and in various outdoor and hands-on activities.
